Martha Bick has specialized in fine homes in the Chapel Hill and Durham area since 2002. She offers buyers and sellers the highest quality representation, including superior market knowledge, professional negotiation and the finest in client service. Through December 2017, she has closed over $200 million in transactions. Her current average transaction size is over $1 million.
Real estate is a second career and second home for Martha. Like many transplants, she wasn’t born in the South but got here as quickly as she could! She started her business career in New York, first as a corporate banker and then as an analyst and salesman in the high yield bond industry. After 20 years at that pace, she and her husband decided to retire and move to Chapel Hill, and she has never looked back. After five years of retirement, she recognized an unfilled niche for high-end home brokerage in the Chapel Hill and Durham marketplace and entered that industry in 2002. Over the ensuing decade and a half, she has become the market leader in luxury home marketing. Referrals from satisfied clients have been a key component of her ongoing success. Those who have worked with Martha, through good markets and bad, know that she takes an analytic approach to pricing homes for both buyers and sellers and her years of experience allow her to work through problems along the way.
Her group includes her husband, Jim, who works primarily behind the scenes to provide the attention to detail that is necessary for the high level of concierge service the Group provides their clients.
“Last year when Hodge & Kittrell Sotheby’s International Realty opened an office on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, we felt that the stars had aligned to put our concierge niche business under the auspices of a name that has been synonymous with high end marketing for decades. We met with Joe Hodge and Gilliam Kittrell and knew it was a perfect fit,' Martha says. 'Our mutual commitment to integrity and high quality service is the key to this business. We want clients to be happy with what they buy before and after closing. We also have a lot of fun. Since we live here, we like happy clients — they make better friends.”
Martha and her husband Jim, have three grown children and twin 5-year-old grandsons. Two of the three have come back to Chapel Hill; Emma is a third-year medical student at UNC, and Phil, who was a CPA in Charlotte, joined Martha’s group in 2017 to focus on real estate in Chapel Hill and Durham. The twin grandsons live with their parents in Hanover, NH. Besides flying to New Hampshire, Martha enjoys oil painting in her spare time.
